Should You Eat Brown Rice or White Rice?

LET’S DISCUSS…

Is it just me or is rice is amazing?! It’s delicious and pairs well with almost everything! Um.. well except fruit of course.. GROSS!

But..It’s the perfect carbohydrate to accompany any meal. You can incorporate it with chicken, steak, turkey and one of my personal favorites.. EGGS (don’t knock it until you try it)!

There are so many different types of rice, But… when it comes down to it how do you know which one is better or even more, which one is healthier?

Today, I’m only discussing brown rice & white rice.

Let’s break this down…

The short answer is eat whichever one you prefer.

Nutritionally, brown and white rice yield 4 calories per gram. However, the biggest difference is mostly in their FIBER content.

Brown rice is a whole grain, meaning it contains more layers of the grain, specifically the bran, and the germ which provides the fiber. These additional layers, is also why brown rice tends to have longer cooking times, a tougher texture and harder to digest.

White rice on the other hand has been polished and the bran and germ have been removed, resulting in less fiber and easier digestion.

Ultimately, if getting enough fiber in your diet is a problem for you, I suggest going with the brown rice however, if fiber is not a problem go with white rice if that's what you prefer.

There’s no need to over complicate this. One is not right or wrong or better or worse, it all depends on your own unique dietary needs and preference.

Remember, MODERATION is going to be the biggest factor.

SO, stop guilting yourself, stop overanalyzing and just eat the dang rice already!

PRO TIP: IF YOU'RE TIRED OF THE SAME OLD WHITE OR BROWN RICE, TRY SPICING IT UP BY ADDING COCONUT MILK, CILANTRO, LIME OR SOMETHING ELSE YOU ENJOY DURING THE COOKING PROCESS. TRY TO AVOID USING BUTTER FOR FLAVOR, THERE ARE SO MANY OTHER LOWER CALORIE OPTIONS.
