It’s a diet that is extremely low in carbohydrates (aka all the good stuff) and high in fat.
It aims to get people in a metabolic state called ketosis, where the body burns fat for energy (not a necessary state to lose fat).
It was originally developed to medically help children that suffered from epileptic seizures and over the years has gained momentum as another popular fad diet (aka another marketing tactic).
And what’s the big deal with it?
Is extremely strict! >>> you can’t live like that forever…
Promotes quick weight loss or “supposed” health benefits >>> quick is never sustainable
Deprives your body of necessary macronutrients >>> low energy and irritable
Deprives you of the foods you enjoy >>> no cookies, chips, pizza, burgers… EVER!
Can cause other health issues>>> especially in regards to your mental sanity and relationship with food.
Only offers short term results >>> again.. How long can you really sustain this?
Much of the weight loss can be water weight >>> aka not actually fat
Has no scientific health benefits >>> again a FAD diet
Weight is almost always re-gained >>> the ultimate yo-yo diet because helloooo… how long can you really go without carbs!?
The list of cons could go onnnnn.
Yes, you might lose weight on Keto initially… but that’s only because you are depriving yourself into a caloric deficit. It is not designed to be sustainable in the long-run.
Sustainable results don’t come from cheap, fast, or easy.
So, instead of wasting your time on something that’s only going to HURT you instead of HELP you… what if I told you there was a better way to achieve the body you want?
Because there is, girl. A much. 👏🏼 better. 👏🏼 way. 👏🏼
If you want sustainable results, you have to start with having the right mindset and realize that you’re committing to a healthy LIFESTYLE not just a short term fix.
If you really want to achieve sustainable fat loss and end yo-yo dieting for good... You have to be ready and willing to put in the work it takes, without chasing a fad diet expecting quick results.
Another part of having the right mindset is building that POSITIVE relationship with food where you’re able to think of food as fuel and in a positive light.
Your body needs protein, fats AND carbs. Food is not the enemy.
Why deprive yourself when you can eat the things you enjoy AND provide your body with what it needs?
With the right nutrition (and fitness) plan, you can totally achieve the results you’re looking for without suffering.
You don’t need another yo-yo diet like Keto. You need Balance.
